The Zadar Department of Archaeology has a long tradition in underwater and maritime archaeological research. The aim is to give a modern, cutting-edge perspective to maritime archaeology, focusing more on the scientific aspect.

The Letavica Shipwreck, Pag Island, (Zadar County, Croatia), is an ancient Roman shipwreck from the 1st century BC.

Remains lie on a sandy seabed between 32 and 38 metres under sea level.

The ship’s cargo is well preserved. Among the findings are several hundred Lamboglia 2 amphorae, which probably contained wine. Their arrangement on the seabed provides insight into the original structure of the ship’s hull.
