From the Seafloor to the Screen: discovering the Underwater Cultural Heritage

May 22th, 2025 marked a special day for students from classes 3AL of Liceo Scientifico Istituto Augusto Righi and 3L of Liceo Ginnasio Aristosseno, both involved in a PCTO (Programs for Soft Skills Development and Career Orientation) with the Institute for the History and Archaeology of Magna Graecia (ISAMG).

Hosted in the evocative setting of the former Convent of Sant’Antonio in Taranto, students had the opportunity to become digital explorers in CREAMARE: The Game — the serious game that combines history, archaeology, and environmental awareness.

The game takes players on an immersive journey to solve puzzles and challenges and discover nine underwater archaeological sites in the Mediterranean Sea, recreated through 3D photogrammetry. As part of an engaging storyline centered on marine pollution, students explored these submerged sites in a fully digital environment, merging cultural discovery with ecological consciousness.

This experience offered a unique way for young learners to engage with underwater cultural heritage and reflect on the challenges of protecting our oceans — all while learning through play.

CREAMARE: The Game is available for download on Steam and Epic Games Store!
