During the week of November 13-18 Atlantis Consulting S.A. participated in 5th Asia-Pacific Regional Conference 2023 – APCONF on Underwater Cultural Heritage, which took place at Asia Culture Centre in Gwangju, South Korea.

The conference theme: “The ocean decade challenges and the maritime cultural heritage of Asia-Pacific”, reflects global efforts to discuss current environmental challenges, in the hope that a look into the past may open a window to the future. To this end the APCONF has as its main theme the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030), a framework to provide solutions that will support a well-functioning ocean.

The conference was graced by the presence of the archaeologist Ms. Anastasia Fourkiotou. She spoke about the significant initiatives and the projects that have been implemented and are currently being implemented to achieve inclusive accessibility and promotion, protection and preservation of Underwater Cultural Heritage in the Mediterranean Sea. Ms. Fourkiotou particularly focused on the Northern Sporades in Greece.

The CREAMARE project was presented to the audience of the conference, during the Session 20: Effective Ways to Deliver Maritime and Underwater Cultural Heritage. The title of Fourkiotou’s speech was: “The responsible in-situ: accessibility and promotion of Underwater Cultural Heritage as a strategy for its protection. A discussion based on recent initiatives in the Mediterranean.”

Furthermore, during the APCONF 2023, CREAMARE flyers and brochures were shared among the conference participants to inform on the project’s initiatives and actions in more detail.
